Introduction

Euro-Excellence Inc. is perceived as THE SPECIALIST OF CONFECTIONARY. Since its conception in 1985, Euro-Excellence Inc. imports and distributes fine confectionery and chocolates in Canada. The Company's president, Mr. André Clémence, has been in the pastry, chocolate making and confectionery business for more than 35 years (chocolate factory in Switzerland, Pâtisserie Le Nôtre in Paris, Kaufhaus of Western Groupe Karstaad in Germany and its own pastry shop in Paris).

"My purpose, from the beginning : bring to Canadians the excellence of European chocolates and fine confectionery"

So, the company's mission is to cultivate taste of confectionery enthusiasts and contribute to the sales growth of our manufacturers and in so doing, our retailers.

The company captured its share of market thanks to eight winning strategies :

Strategy #1 Premium Quality

When we choose to represent a product, it must conform to Euro-Excellence's criteria of quality: refined flavour, a list of quality ingredients (e.g. pure cocoa butter), freshness which is reflected in the texture, and attractive packaging. Also, our selection of organic products grows progressively over the years.

Strategy #2 Our Assortment

Currently, Euro-Excellence represents more than sixty companies from several European countries, including France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy.

The products may be classified into six categories : biscuits, candies, chocolates, sweet confectionery, jams and gourmet food.

We are always looking for new quality products that would meet the expectations of Canadians.

Strategy #4 Competitive Prices

The current economic environment encourages the development of European products in Canada by providing added value to those currently sold in department's stores. More and more, we notice a qualitative evolution in the confectionery sector. Euro-Excellence Inc. chooses products with a sale price that satisfies consumers budgets given both national and international competition, as well as given the requirements of mass merchandising.

Strategy #5 Best Customer Service

The goods are stored in Montreal in our refrigerated warehouse (2000 sqm.) in order to guarantee the quality of our products. Orders are shipped to our customers within two business days and no minimum quantity is required. The products are always fresh with our weekly arrivals directly from Europe (Le Havre / Anvers).

Strategy #6 Global territory

Our customers are located across Canada from East to West. It includes supermarkets, drugstores*, department stores, gourmet food stores and speciality shops (more than 2500 customers). We also actively participate in trade shows, exhibitions, sampling demonstrations and the promotions of our chains. Our sales team is made up of 27 representatives chosen for their dynamic approach and experience.

* North American drugstores are large shops that sell various products other than medication. According to statistics, these are the best sellers of chocolates in the country.

Strategy #7 Wood Display Chocolats & Cacaos du Monde

The premium chocolate market is growing consistently. In order to maintain its current dominant position, Euro-Excellence Inc. has developed a wood display, so-called Chocolats & Cacaos du Monde. This piece of furniture has been designed by a professional cabinetmaker and reflects a luxurious image of the chocolates in it. For all orders of more than $ 1000, our customers may receive this wood display in order to valorise at most our products, increase our sales and strengthen our market share.

Displayed brands : Flagrants Désirs, Sarotti, Valor, Camille Bloch, Poulain, Van Houten Chocmod truffle box (example of presentation).

Strategy #8 Nutritional Labelling

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency requires since December 15th 2005 that every product sold on the Canadian market should respect the following criteria :

  • Bilingual description of the item in French and English ;
  • List of the ingredients and declaration of the allergens that may be contained in the product (i.e. cross contamination risk) ;
  • Table of nutritional facts (13 values) - similar to the table required in the USA, though different.

Example of presentation here enclosed.

In order to respond properly to these new requirements, Euro-Excellence Inc. has developed a Quality Assurance department devoted to the study of each item before putting it on the market. The conformity of the ingredients is checked regarding to Canadian Food Legislation. When the product is approved, a bilingual label is created mentioning the nutritional values, list of ingredients and allergens. The label is then affixed on each product individually. This meticulous work is done in respect with the original packaging. This whole process is achievable thanks to the valuable collaboration of our suppliers who provide us all needed information.

Euro-Excellence Inc. has largely invested in machinery equipment in order to label the products. These machines increase the productivity and allow our products to be quickly available on the market.

Nevertheless, for some items, manual labelling is still required.
